GTK/ Projects/The Outokumpu Deep Drilling Project
International Workshop, Espoo, Finland, October 25-26, 2004

An international workshop on the Outokumpu Deep Drilling Project was organized by the Geological Survey of Finland on October 25-26, 2004, in Espoo, Finland. The workshop was participated by forty international experts focusing on the Outokumpu geology, geophysics, hydrogeology and hydrochemistry as well as various fields of deep drilling investigations. During the workshop nineteen presentations were given on the Outokumpu project, current status of drilling, and first results in general (Abstract volume). Many different potential ideas for future research were presented and discussed during the workshop.

It seems already that strong, and scientifically competitive groups can be formed in the fields such as hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, geothermics, petrophysics, seismic structural investigations, microseismic monitoring, geochronology, stress field studies, petrology and petrogenesis of Outokumpu type rocks and many other topics.

The Geological Survey is calling for research proposals related to the Outokumpu Deep Drilling Project. For further instructions on how to submit a proposal please take a look at the link (Call for proposals).
